Root Crops

Tropical Root Crops belong in every Florida gardener’s edible arsenal.  From Sweet Potatoes to Cassava to Taro, root crops are the easiest way to grow delicious, calorie-dense organic food in your yard.  While grains are commonly grown in temperate climates, root vegetables are the king of staple foods in tropical climates near the equator.  The bonus is, they take up much less space, don’t require lots of processing, and can be grown and harvested throughout most of the year.  We encourage Florida food foresters to explore the various Tropical Root Crops we offer, as an easy and rewarding path to self-sufficiency– there’s nothing more satisfying than growing something that fills your belly!
