Why do we plant a garden?

If you want to garden to grow food, enjoy the food you grow and feed your family -

you could consider yourself a homesteader!

Often times we use strategy to plant out our garden but we don’t have a plan on how we’re going to use our garden to the fullest...

That's why I've compiled this handy list of questions to consider,  a free resource to help you succeed in getting the most satisfaction from your garden!

What is homesteading?

What comes to your mind when you read this word?

I picture a farm where ducks waddle by with muddy feet and children are busy shucking peas on the porch. Mother is churning butter in the kitchen, looking out from the open window, which is decorated with bundles of hanging herbs, swaying in the gentle breeze…

Many people cannot relate to this!

Although what is actually relatable is a growing and mutual yearning to slow down the pace of our lives and return to learning real skills like gardening and home cooking. Surely we can all agree that this fast paced society is making us sick and disconnected from what is nourishing!

Homesteading is generally characterized by subsistence agriculture and home preservation of food. I think it’s a direction to aim towards - in whatever capacity you may have: To use what you have; to learn practical skills; to slow down and appreciate the little things.

This is why I believe growing edible plants is a simple, achievable first step in homesteading.

Homesteading is a lifestyle, rooted in the desire to work with your hands and make meaningful use of the God-given resources you have.

You can homestead whether you have lots of land or a small patio or kitchen.

Setting goals is easy but keeping them and checking in are often what makes the difference between achieving or forgetting them. This is why I made this list of questions! I have found this to be helpful for me and hope that it can be a good resource for you in your journey with gardening and becoming more self-sufficient!
